Modern Hotel Digs in Washington, DC

While Washington, DC has no shortage of amazing world-class hotels, I recently had the pleasure of spending two-nights at the Donovan House, a Kimpton Hotel, located directly on Thomas Circle in N.W. Washington, DC. I have stayed at this property numerous times and I’m a big fan of Kimpton Hotels because of their commitment to a customer centric model of running their company. Kimpton’s are known for doing things differently: Sure, many five-star luxury hotels are known to roll out the red carpet for guests, but as a mostly four-star level property, Donovan House sets itself apart with amenities like the following:

• complementary wine hour every evening from 5-6pm,
• bicycles that can be checked out during your stay,
• all kind and size of pet is welcome without the requirement of a large deposit,
• various environmentally conscious programs,
• a high-level of engagement in the communities they serve,
• friendly staff,
• most have a great restaurant in-house,
• And many more…

While the entire aforementioned services make Kimpton Hotel’s a stand-out, the fun really begins when you become one of their loyalty program’s elite members. I’ve been lucky to be an “inner circle” member of their Karma Rewards program for the past five- years, and let-me-tell-you, they really roll out the red carpet for you when you’re in this category. When you become one of their Karma Rewards “inner circle” members you are eligible for room upgrades (usually a suite), special promotions that run throughout the year and at various properties across the country and they also send you a “welcome amenity” consisting of treats of your choosing that you put on your Karma Rewards profile online. This company really knows how to reward loyalty and make you feel special – In a time when many airlines and hotels (that I will not mention) are taking away the perks, Kimpton keeps adding them on for their loyal guests. And again, while there are some amazing five-star properties in the Capitol city, The Donovan House is a stylish modern property in a great location that has a lot to offer their guests at a moderate price. Also, I’m not sure if filming was done here, but the rooms look very similar to several scenes in the hit Netflix series “House of Cards”… Either way, it’s a great property that treats their guests with a big dose of hospitality.
